Technical characteristics of Malysh pumps and their performance

Not all private houses, and especially dachas, are connected to the central water supply, so the owners are faced with the urgent issue of providing their household with water. The “Malysh” submersible pump will help solve the problem, which, although it has modest characteristics, is quite enough for watering the garden and delivering water from a lake, well or river. In addition, the device is inexpensive and available to almost every family.

How to ensure that the Baby works smoothly?

In order for the device to function smoothly and for as long as possible, you must monitor the voltage in the electrical network. If changes in electrical energy are observed, the pump must be turned off immediately. In addition, monitor the quality of the transported water, as sometimes the equipment becomes unusable due to the fact that particles of debris and sand get inside the mechanism.

It is generally accepted that such a problem can be solved quite simply - you just need to install a unit with an upper fence. But in reality, the pump can become clogged not only due to the fact that bottom sediments penetrate inside - dirty water is also a common cause of failure.

To protect the submersible device, we recommend purchasing and installing a filter - it will trap small particles, preventing them from penetrating into the tank itself. By using a filter, you will not only extend the operating life of the unit, but also ensure the supply of higher quality (as it is relatively clean from impurities) liquid.

Pump device Baby

The baby consists of parts:

  • electric drive
  • vibrator
  • pump housing.

All parts are connected using screws (4 pcs.), which are screwed into the connectors.

The electric drive of the unit has:

  • core
  • two coils
  • power cord, which are molded into the housing with an epoxy compound.

The vibrator has:

  • shock absorber
  • coupling
  • aperture
  • emphasis
  • a rod with an anchor and a piston attached to it.

The diaphragm is located at some distance from the shock absorber. They determine the direction of the rod and prevent water from entering the electric drive, thereby ensuring the tightness of the unit.

The body of the device is made in the form of a cap, at the top of which there are holes for water suction and a pipe for its outlet.
The valve covers the holes and allows fluid to enter and exit the unit.

Common problems and solutions to them

One of the common problems with the operation of this device is that it works, but does not pump water. There may be several reasons for this:

  • Loosening the locknut in the Malysh pump device. If the nut on the adjusting screw, which is located at the point of water intake, is loose, then simply tighten it, thus regulating the efficiency of the unit.
  • Failure of the pumping rod. One of the most serious malfunctions, since the rod is located in an adjacent unit and is very difficult to replace without specialized equipment. You can fix such a breakdown either in a specialized service center, or by having at your disposal a second broken pump with a different type of fault. In the second case, you just need to remove the working unit from the donor pump and install it on the original device.
  • Broken pump cuff. To detect this type of malfunction, you need to completely disassemble the unit. The pumping cuff looks like two small saucers, with their bottoms facing each other. This spare part is very inexpensive and can be easily replaced on your own.
  • You can repair the pump yourself, the main thing is to understand the principle of its operation.

    If the water pressure switch for Malysh pumps or other complex equipment fails, then it is better not to risk it and seek qualified help. Despite the simplicity of the unit, improper repairs can lead to complete failure of all parts.

    Types of pumps

    Classic pump

    This vibrating unit is used for pumping water from a well or a small well with a diameter greater than 100 mm, as well as for watering a plot of land. In addition to vertical pumping of water, it is also possible to carry out horizontal pumping over distances from 100 to 150 m .

    A submersible pump cannot pump out contaminated liquid where the concentration of additional substances (impurities) is more than 0.01% and the temperature is more than 35 degrees.

    The classic “Kid” has a bottom water pumping system. The kit includes a hose 18 -22 mm (diameter). This option does not have automatic protection against overheating, a filter, or a pressure measurement relay. The unit must be immersed to a depth of no more than 5 meters.

    The technical characteristics of M series pumps fully correspond to the classic ones. The difference is that they are used only for overhead water intake.

    Z series pump

    This is the best option for an inexpensive unit for pumping liquid from wells with a diameter of more than 80 mm.

    Main technical differences:

    • the unit and its electric drive are placed in a sealed block, the design of which is monolithic
    • power (nominal) reduced to 165 W
    • water supply is about 0.4 cubic meters per hour at a pressure of 20.

    The weight of the device is up to 3 kg, the dimensions are compact. The diameter of the hose from this series should be 3/4 inch. The cable, protected from water ingress, is supplied with a length of about 30 m. There is no filter; the device can be supplemented (if desired) with an EFVP glass-shaped filter.

    K series pump

    These pumps have built-in automatic overheating protection (thermal protection). There are no other differences from the classic model.

    Application area

    The operating power of the Malysh pump is small, so it cannot be used to extract water from deep artesian wells. But it works great in wells and wells “on sand”, and can also pump water from rivers and lakes containing mechanical impurities.

    What problems can be solved with its help:

    • Raising water from a depth of up to 40 meters;
    • Its pumping into the water supply system of the house and site;
    • Watering garden plants;
    • Pumping water from swimming pools, flooded basements and cellars;
    • Washing cars, paths and areas, building facades, etc.

    Note. The design of the vibration pump Malysh allows it to be used for pumping liquids contaminated with insoluble impurities - sand, silt. But if their quantity exceeds the maximum permissible, a filtration system is needed.

    Installation Features

    To install the pump correctly , you must:

    • Measure the depth of the preferred location of the unit in the reservoir (well).
    • Purchase a hose of the required size for pumping water, since the diameter must correspond to the given model (technical specifications). If the sections do not match, the pressure will increase and productivity will decrease.
    • Secure the hose to the pipe with a plastic clamp.
    • Models with a lower water intake should be placed 0.5 m from the well bottom, and models with an upper intake should be lowered to the bottom.
    • Use a nylon cord or a small diameter steel cable to lower and secure the unit. Secure it into the eyelet located on the device body. Then take a half-meter piece of rubber and tie it to the cord, its upper part to dampen vibration.
    • During installation, do not connect the unit to the network. If the cable is not long enough, you can lengthen it so that the connection point is at the top, outside the well.
    • To increase service life, you can install a mechanical filter that purifies the water and prevents impurities from entering the device. Most often, a conventional cylindrical gasket made of fibrous material is used for these purposes. The gasket is placed over the suction valve to filter the water.
    • After installation is completed, the pump is connected to the electrical network.

    It is better to install the unit lower than the dynamic water level.
    Malysh submersible devices must be placed horizontally, which increases their service life.

    General information

    The “Malysh” pump is used only for pumping clean liquid. If you pump too contaminated water, it can quickly fail. It is used for the following purposes:

    • collection of water into storage tanks;
    • watering garden plots;
    • water supply for a dacha, private house, cottage.

    The “Malysh” electric pump is capable of pumping liquid from the nearest body of water (lake, river, pond), as well as from a well. It can also be used to dispense liquid from a reservoir or well. In the latter case there are some nuances. The fact is that, by its type, “Baby” is a vibration device. During operation, it creates vibrations, as a result of which small particles (sand, clay, silt) rise from the bottom and are sucked into the apparatus. If this happens to a well, the maximum it can lead to is clouding of the well fluid. But in the well, the device may soon silt up.

    The unit itself is compact - up to 255 mm, weighs about 3.4 kg. Productive operation of this device is possible only if there is a small amount of mechanical impurities (up to 0.01%). Pumping liquid from rivers with a large sand content, as well as from sources that are too silted, requires the use of a filtration system in parallel with the Malysh pump.

    Operating principle and safety precautions

    Based on the properties of electromagnetic vibrations transmitted to the float valve, the membrane vibrates, and due to this, pressure increases and liquid is pushed through. Mechanisms of this type are very sensitive; when overheated and after the supply of the entire mass of water has finished, the engine is turned off using automation , which ensures control of the operation of the device.

    There are several models of units that differ from each other in the location of the suction holes. It is safer to purchase a Malysh unit that has an upper water intake, because in its design the electric motor is located at the bottom and therefore cools faster than other models. The location of the suction holes at the top ensures that dirt found at the bottom of the water intake does not penetrate into the unit. This will have a positive effect on the operation of the device and its duration of use.

    Models with a water intake at the bottom must be constantly checked, as silt deposits and other impurities can get inside. It is necessary to purchase models with thermal protection, which prevents the engine from overheating. In case of malfunction of the valves and other minor breakdowns, the Baby can be repaired independently. You should seek the help of professionals when the warranty period has expired and when measuring an engine that has burned out. Models with a lower intake are recommended to be supplemented with the installation of a mechanical filter that prevents foreign objects from entering the pump.

    To avoid breakdown of the pumping unit, when choosing a model, you must select the correct power , ensure that the device is handled with care, and that all recommendations provided by the manufacturer are followed.

    Safety precautions

    1. Do not touch the pump while it is plugged into the mains.
    2. If the voltage is higher than normal, the unit cannot be used.
    3. Do not use the device if the power cord is damaged.
    4. Do not move the pump or secure it with the power cord.
    5. When the unit is operating, it is not allowed to block the water flow.
    6. Uninterrupted operation of the device is allowed for no more than 2 hours, with a stop for 20 minutes of rest. The unit cannot be used for more than 12 hours a day.
    7. Pumping water with large impurities and debris is not allowed.
    8. The device should not be used by people or children who do not have sufficient experience or knowledge to operate it correctly.

    Owners of Malysh pumps, who observe precautions and operating rules, are satisfied with the purchase of the device and characterize it only on the positive side. The performance of Malysh pumps is high, despite the small size of the unit, low power and price.

    Use and operating rules of the device

    Before operating the “Malysh” pump, you must familiarize yourself with the rules for its safe operation. There are a number of restrictions under which it is strictly prohibited to use the device.

    Rules for safe use:

    • The device cannot be used with a damaged cord or at high voltage;
    • when the pump is turned on, it is forbidden to shut off the water supply;
    • the unit should operate no more than twelve hours a day;
    • Continuous operation should be no more than two hours with periodic shutdowns for twenty minutes.

    All restrictions are described in detail in the instructions for the device, which you must read in order to avoid unforeseen consequences.

    The best option for working in a well

    Device at a budget price

    Kid in the process of cleaning the bottom of a well

    Simplicity of design and maintainability

    The process of preparing the pump for operation

    To work, you will need a flexible rubber or similar elastomeric hose with an internal diameter of at least 18 mm. It is not recommended to use smaller hoses as they create unnecessary stress on the device.

    You can use plastic or metal pipes to supply water, but in any case they must be connected to the pump only through a hose with a minimum length of 2 m.

    Vibrating submersible pumps are attached to two eyes using a nylon cord (1). The hose is connected to the outlet pipe with an elastic clamp (2)

    The hose is connected to the outlet pipe of the device using a clamp. If the vibration pump is intended to be used in winter, then to prevent freezing and ensure free flow of liquid, it is necessary to make a small 1.5 mm hole in the hose next to the body. In the summer, the hole can be covered with electrical tape.

    Then a 10 m long nylon cord, which is included in the delivery set, is attached to the pump eyes. To increase the length, you can use wire by attaching it to a nylon cord.

    However, you cannot attach a wire or metal cable directly to the submersible unit - this risks breaking the mounting holes.

    It is necessary to calculate in advance the distance from the outlet to the water source. This determines how long the cable will be needed to connect the vibration pump. The baby is equipped with a power cord with a length of 6-40 m, its exact length is indicated in the instructions.

    Thus, three cords should come from the pump: an electrical wire, a rubber hose and a nylon cable. They must be connected to each other in several places with tape at intervals of 100-200 cm. Moreover, the first connection should be located no further than 20 cm from the device body.

    Flexible hoses are recommended to connect the pump to the water supply. If not available, it is permissible to use polymer and steel pipes. In order to accurately mark the depth of immersion of the pump into the source, you can mark it on the hose with tape or colored tape

    Specifics of installing the device in a well

    The pump vibrates during operation. It is possible that it will come into contact with the walls of a casing pipe or a narrow well, which will inevitably lead to damage to the casing and equipment breakdown.

    To avoid this, before installing the pump and immersing the unit in water, you must put a rubber ring on it, which will absorb possible shocks and serve as additional protection for the housing.

    The pump must be lowered into the water and positioned correctly; it must hang evenly, without touching the walls. A bar is installed on top of the well, to which a suspension made of durable elastic material is attached. The suspension is necessary to reduce vibration during operation of the device.

    The material you can use is a piece of rubber hose or a medical tourniquet. The upper end of the cable is connected to the suspension, creating good tension. But for the electrical wire, excessive tension is absolutely not necessary; it should lie freely on the bar.

    The pump is suspended in water to a depth not exceeding three meters from the highest point of its body (+)

    The new “Malysh” pump is completely ready for use; it does not need to be filled with water or lubricated before use. If the device used has protection class 1, the socket must be grounded. The device can be turned on immediately after immersion in a well or pond.

    The distance from the bottom to the housing for devices with bottom water intake must be at least one meter. A submersible pump with an upper suction port can be lowered much lower, but in any case its housing should not touch the bottom to avoid damage during operation.

    The diagram shows options for installing the pump in a casing pipe and in an open water source. In the second case, you can do without a spring suspension (+)

    In the event that water is pumped from shallow reservoirs, as well as when pumping out flooded basements, the pump can be lowered to the bottom. The housing should first be wrapped in thick cloth or a sheet of rubber placed under the unit.

    Replacing the protective rings of the Baby pump

    Ensuring smooth operation

    In order for the “Baby” to work without interruption and for as long as possible, it is necessary to monitor the network voltage. In case of power surges, the device must be turned off immediately. It is also necessary to control the quality of the pumped water, since a common cause of equipment failure is sand and debris getting into the mechanism.

    Many people think that this problem can be solved by installing a pump with an upper water intake. However, clogging of the device often occurs not only due to bottom sediments entering it; dirty water can also cause breakdowns.

    To protect the submersible pump, it is advisable to install a filter that traps the smallest particles and prevents them from penetrating inside the tank. You can make a simple filter device with your own hands.

    The use of a filter will not only extend the life of the unit, but will also ensure the supply of higher quality water, purified from any impurities.

    The figure shows how a filter is installed on a Malysh pump with a lower water intake. For domestic devices, the EFPS-St-38-125 filter is suitable, which traps particles up to 150 microns in size

    Performance and Specifications

    Pressure characteristics of the streamlet pump. (Click to enlarge) The Rucheyok vibration pump is effective for domestic use when pumping clean water (impurities 100 g/m3) with a temperature of no more than 350.

    The originality and quality of the product is confirmed by the presence of a cast nameplate on the body with the name of the manufacturer, model and the main characteristics of the following:

    • voltage - 220 volts;
    • AC frequency – 50 Hz;
    • current no more than 3.5 A;
    • nominal power – 225 W;
    • max. depth – 80 m;
    • max. pressure: at 20 m - 950 l/hour;
    • at 30 m. - 720 l/hour;
    • at 40 m. - 430 l/hour.
  • overall height – 300 mm;
  • overall diameter – 99 mm;
  • weight without cable – 3.6 kg;
  • outlet fitting for the hose – Ø3/4″.
  • Such characteristics allow you to successfully implement:

    • selective, within the technical specifications, water supply to the house;
    • replacement of the main pump during repairs;
    • application in sources with a small debit;
    • restoration, due to vibration, of a limited well;
    • pumping out water from flooded communications and buildings;
    • filling the heating system in a new building.

    Specialist's note: you should not simultaneously connect to the water supply due to possible overload: house, bathhouse, other buildings, irrigation.

    Where is it used?

    The electric pump “Baby” received this name due to its light weight and compact size. The pump operates from a regular outlet and can provide quite normal water pressure in a summer cottage.

    With this little thing you can:

    • Pump out the water.
    • Maintain water supply in residential and non-residential properties.
    • Conduct water to the garden to organize an irrigation system in the greenhouse.
    • Connect automatic sprinklers.

    Remember! This pump can only pump out relatively clean water. If there is a lot of dirt in the liquid, it can cause wear of parts, which will lead to breakdown and unscheduled repairs.

    The electromagnetic household pump “Malysh”, which is produced in Russia, has become very popular and in demand due to its simple installation, small dimensions, affordable price and good reliability.

    Installation in a well or borehole

    The submersible pump Baby is suspended on a synthetic rope. A metal cable or wire is quickly destroyed by vibration. Their use is possible if a synthetic cable is tied below - at least 2 meters. To secure it, there are lugs in the upper part of the case. The end of the cable is threaded through them and carefully secured. The unit is located no lower than 10 cm from the pump body so that it does not get sucked inside. The cut edges are melted to prevent the cable from unraveling.

    The cable clings to a special eyelet

    Connecting hoses and pipes

    A supply hose is attached to the pump outlet. Its internal diameter should be slightly smaller (a couple of millimeters) than the diameter of the pipe. A hose that is too narrow creates additional stress, which causes the unit to burn out faster.

    It is allowed to install flexible rubber or polymer hoses, as well as plastic or metal pipes of suitable diameter. When using pipes, the pump is connected to them with a piece of flexible hose at least 2 meters long.

    Installation diagram of a submersible vibration pump

    The hose is secured to the pipe using a metal clamp. Usually a problem arises here: the hose jumps off due to constant vibrations. To prevent this from happening, the outer surface of the pipe can be processed with a file, giving it additional roughness. You can also make a groove for the clamp, but don’t get too carried away. It is better to use a stainless steel clamp with notches - it gives additional rigidity to the fastening.

    It’s better to take a clamp like this

    Preparation and descent

    The installed hose, cable and electrical cable are pulled together by installing constrictions. The first one is placed at a distance of 25-30 cm from the body, all the others in increments of 1-2 meters. Banners can be made from adhesive tape, plastic clamps, pieces of synthetic twine, etc. The use of metal wire or clamps is prohibited - when they vibrate, they chafe the sheath of the cord, hose, or the twine itself.

    A crossbar is installed at the head of the well or borehole, to which the cable will be attached. The second option is a hook on the side wall.

    The prepared pump is carefully lowered to the required depth. Here, too, questions arise: at what depth to install the Malysh submersible pump. The answer is twofold. Firstly, the distance from the water surface to the top of the hull should be no more than the immersion depth of this model. For the Topol “Malysh” it is 3 meters, for the PATRIOT unit it is 10 meters. Secondly, there must be at least a meter to the bottom of the well or borehole. This is so as not to disturb the water too much.

    Tie with plastic, nylon cords, adhesive tape, but not with metal (even in a sheath)

    If the Malysh submersible pump is installed in a well, it should not touch the walls. When installed in a well, a rubber spring ring is put on the body.

    Having lowered the pump to the required depth, the cable is secured to the crossbar

    Please note: all weight must be on the cable, not on the hose or cable. To do this, when fastening, the twine is pulled tight, and the cord and hose are slightly loosened

    Installation in a shallow well

    At a shallow well depth, when the length of the cable is less than 5 meters, to neutralize vibrations, the cable is suspended from the crossbar through a spring pad. The best option is a piece of thick rubber that can withstand the load (weight and vibration). The use of springs is not recommended.

    Mounting options for submersible vibration pumps with upper and lower water intake

    Installation in a river, pond, lake (horizontally)

    The Malysh submersible pump can also be operated in a horizontal position. Its preparation is similar - put on the hose, fasten everything with ties. Only then should the body be wrapped in a rubber sheet 1-3 mm thick.

    Vertical installation option in open water

    Once the pump is lowered under water, it can be turned on and operated. It does not require any additional measures (filling and lubrication). It cools down with the help of pumped water, which is why switching on without water has an extremely bad effect on it: the motor overheats and can burn out.

    The pump hums, but does not work. What to do?

    When the “Malysh” submersible pump is operating, a situation may arise when it hums, but the water does not pump. Very often, the cause of this malfunction can be the loosening of fasteners in the housing or inside the device due to vibration. As a result, water gets into it.

    It is even possible that the body will unwind completely and one part of it will fall to the bottom. To avoid this unpleasant moment, you need to place the device in a special container in which holes are pre-drilled. In models with bottom water supply, this malfunction occurs due to clogging of the mechanisms with small stones and other debris, which leads to wear of the rubber parts of the piston.

    With this option, there is likely to be weak pressure or no water flow at all. In such a situation, you will need to replace all failed parts.

    If you do not intend to use the water pump in winter, it will need to be removed from the well or borehole, washed and dried thoroughly.

    The device must be stored away from heating devices so that it is not exposed to direct sunlight.

    Provided that all operating rules for the vibration submersible pump are followed, it will last a long time and will not break.
