Portable compact tank for bathroom equipment
If you have a country house without a permanent toilet, and you go there quite rarely, then to create at least a minimally comfortable bathroom, you should buy a toilet bucket with a lid. This device has an extremely simple design, but at the same time it cannot be called inconvenient - in any case, in the absence of alternatives, it certainly will not hurt.
My experience in using such bucket toilets cannot be called too extensive, but still I will share some information with you below.
Option for a toilet for a summer house in the form of a bucket
A dacha is a wonderful place for a good rest in nature; the only, but noticeable, disadvantage is the lack of the amenities of civilization, including a centralized sewerage system. But you shouldn’t give up a good rest just for this reason, because there are many ways to solve this issue, one of them is purchasing a country toilet in the form of a bucket.
Bucket application
A country toilet in the form of a bucket, this is the simplest bucket modified by increasing the height and adding a toilet seat. Simplicity makes it so popular among summer residents and not only. It’s no secret that before the advent of this “invention,” summer residents used a simple bucket to relieve their needs, especially at night. But dedicating a separate bucket just for this task is not very convenient. But it’s easy to acquire a special device.
This design appeared on the market not so long ago, but it can already be found in almost every country house that does not have a permanent toilet. There is nothing surprising about this, since a country toilet in the form of a bucket has many advantages:
- Ease of use: after the need has been relieved, the structure is emptied and can be used again.
- Low price. The material from which the toilet is made is simple plastic, of good quality. On average, a variety of sets of buckets with a seat cost from 200 to 500 rubles. The price tag depends on the displacement, as well as the design. A 17-liter device costs a little more than 350 rubles.
- Variety of applications. The design is suitable for use not only for a summer residence. You can take it with you when fishing or hunting, or use it for people who have limited mobility. It can also be used simply as a bucket, for watering and other things.
- Easy to care for. The country toilet does not require any special care, but it needs to be kept clean, which is logical, given its purpose.
There are also disadvantages that you can fight with:
There will be an unpleasant odor if the device is not emptied and washed after use. If you are too lazy to do this or find it inconvenient to go out at night or in the rain, then you need to prepare in advance. You need to add about two liters of water to the bucket, and add an odor neutralizer to the water. Add a simple detergent or wormwood branches, this will neutralize the odor and allow you to use the toilet as often as possible. A toilet in the form of a bucket is considered a temporary measure, because all things have their own expiration date. Plastic tends to burst, this can happen at the most inopportune moment.
It is worth taking this fact into account.
Where is the best place to install?
Everyone decides for themselves where it will be more convenient for them to relieve themselves. Many people use a bucket toilet at night and use a stall outside during the day.
The decision is made by the owner of the site, and is most often dictated by ease of use. Nothing prevents you from having a couple of such structures for a two-story house. Or make do with one, moving it as needed from the house to a cabin on the site.
Recycling
An important point is the disposal of waste from such a toilet. The most common method is to prepare compost from waste, which will later be useful for fertilizing the soil. In this case, after using the toilet in the form of a bucket for its intended purpose, you need to pour some peat or sawdust into the bucket and store everything in a separate place designated for this purpose, perhaps outside the dacha.
There is another way. There are special biologically active substances on sale; upon contact and excrement, they destroy them to the state of water, which can then be discharged into wastewater, without harm to nature and humans.
Conclusion
A bucket toilet is a practical and economical solution that does not require a sewer connection and works autonomously. Suitable for use not only in the country, but also for fishing or hunting, as well as for use in an apartment for people with limited mobility. The low price and variety of colors will allow everyone to choose the right design.
Electric dry toilets
A rare group. Works only when electricity is available. There are two types of electric bio toilets. In some, the liquid and solid fractions are separated. The liquid is discharged through a special tube, which can be connected directly to the sewer or discharged into a waste pit. The solid fraction is burned in a sealed container. The remainder is a small pile of ash that can be used as fertilizer.
The second type of electric toilets dries feces and urine, and then fills the remains with a special composition. In this form, excrement weighs very little and can be stored for a long time.
Container into which ashes are poured
In order for the drying or burning processes to take place without odors, it is necessary to create or connect to ventilation, which adds complexity to installation. Another common disadvantage of this type of composting toilet is its dependence on electricity. Without it, nothing will work. The next significant disadvantage is the high price. All of them together limit the use of this type of units.
How to use it correctly
In principle, there is nothing complicated here. The main task is to keep the device clean and prevent unpleasant odors from filling the rooms. If these are small-volume tanks, then after each emptying they must be cleaned by rinsing them with water. If the bucket is large, for example, 15 or 24 liters, then there is no point in taking it out after each use. It’s just that for this purpose it is recommended to fill the plastic product with certain materials. There are quite a lot of the latter, but there are several effective ways.
The mini-toilet should be cleaned as it fills up. Source rinnipool.ru
Peat filling
To do this, you will need finely crushed peat or its mixture with sawdust in a 1:1 ratio.
- Toilet bucket bottom filled with peat mixture
10-15 cm thick.
- After bowel movements, feces on top fall asleep
all with the same mixture in a layer of 2-3 cm. The peat itself is usually stored next to the toilet, for example, in an ordinary plastic bucket, where a plastic scoop is placed for convenience.
- In this way, you can fill the mini-toilet before the bucket will be two-thirds full
its volume. After which it is taken out and the contents are poured into a compost pit.

Vodyanoye
This is the simplest filling option, for which ordinary water is used. It is recommended to add a little detergent or a special substance that helps decompose organic matter. The amount of water poured in is 1/3 of the volume of the device.
An important point is that after using the toilet bucket, feces must be covered with toilet paper folded in half.
Litter like cat litter
This is the most effective option, because neither the first nor the second guarantees 100% tightness. Even if the lid fits tightly to the body of the structure. In this regard, a filler consisting of granules is an ideal solution. But this substance costs a lot of money. So it's worth thinking about before using it.
If the decision is made in favor of the filler, then my advice is not to buy flavored granules. Mixing odors is a doubly unpleasant moment.

What is the price
Today you can buy a toilet bucket in almost every hardware store or in supermarkets - in the “everything for the home” departments. Although the assortment is usually not very large, there is still a choice. The price will depend not only on the volume of the bucket, but also on the thickness of the plastic used. The thicker, the more expensive.
You can buy a bucket toilet for your dacha in Moscow today at these prices:
- A bucket toilet with a removable potty with a capacity of 17 liters costs 882 rubles.
- A non-separable device with a volume of 13 liters costs 600 rubles.
- An Elf brand bucket with a height of 40 cm and a volume of 22 liters without a removable pot costs 430 rubles.
This small list shows that products of this type are presented on the market in various price segments. That is, there is plenty to choose from based on cost. Therefore, each consumer, depending on the requirements for the bucket, can choose the necessary model taking into account its price.

Advantages of the device
Despite the outward appearance of the bucket toilet, this design has quite serious positive aspects:
- This device does not need to be connected to the sewer system, septic tank or cesspool, which will require certain financial costs. To dispose of sewage, a compost pit or box, which is used in the country for processing household waste, will be sufficient.
- This toilet is very easy to use. Maintenance does not require any costs. A little water is required for cleaning. Some people use detergents for this. But they are not always needed.
- There is no need to build a special room for the bucket. If necessary, it can be used in any room. If there are children in the house, sometimes this is a big plus.
- The weight of the product does not exceed 2 kg. That is, both children and old people can carry it.
- Low price. Compared to other options for organizing a toilet, it’s just cheap.
- Wide variety of colors.

Bucket toilet
A plastic bucket toilet is a simple invention, but in some cases it is very useful. For example, you have a country house without a permanent toilet, and you don’t go there often. Or there is a disabled person in the house (disabled or elderly) who finds it difficult to leave the room to go to the toilet. It was for these cases that engineers developed a dry closet, which is a bucket with a lid. If you carefully read the instructions for this gadget, you will find out that a bucket-toilet with a lid can be used not only for the dacha, by relieving yourself in it. It turns out that it’s convenient to go fishing with it, to the forest to pick mushrooms, and to water the garden. But the main purpose of the bucket is, of course, to be used as a toilet item.
Design and principle of operation
Externally, the country bucket toilet resembles an ordinary bucket, which has a lid and a toilet seat. It is made of plastic, but don’t let this fact fool you. This material is so strong that it can support a weight of more than one hundred kilograms. The color of the product can be any. The inventors of this device took care of this, so you can choose a bucket that matches the color without difficulty.
The principle of operation of the bucket toilet is extremely simple. Sit down, relieve yourself, close the lid, take it outside and pour it into the compost pit. Then you wash it and leave it alone “until required.” Don’t want to empty the contents and wash the bucket after each visit? Then you should sprinkle the stool with sawdust or peat. Don't have any sawdust or peat on hand? Then before use, pour a liter or two of water into the bucket, and after use, cover the contents with a layer of toilet paper. It will hold solid particles in the water, which will help eliminate unpleasant odors. You can add a few drops of any detergent to the bucket to enhance the scents.
Advantages of a bucket toilet
The main advantage of this invention is that there is no need to connect it to the sewer. You can install this bucket anywhere, even in the living room. The design is very simple, so neither a child nor an old person will have any difficulties with operation. It’s easy to care for such a toilet – just empty it, wash it and that’s it! And the price of such an acquisition will please you. A bucket toilet costs on average 10-15 dollars, and is completely worth its price. A bucket toilet is an excellent solution for a summer house.
Which dry toilet to choose for your dacha: review and criteria, which one to buy
For some reason, this topic is often passed over with delicate silence, and completely in vain. After all, a toilet is a necessity for every civilized person, no matter where he is at the moment - in his apartment or in a suburban area.
The usual approach is to dig a cesspool on a summer cottage, in the corner farthest from the residential house, over which a small wooden structure is erected, used as a toilet. However, over time, an unpleasant odor can begin to spread throughout the entire area, blocking the aromas of the forest and mown grass, so the owners of the site begin to come up with different ways to localize it. And, you see, it’s not very pleasant to run to the restroom across the entire site, especially at night or in inclement weather. That is why such a convenient device as a dry closet was developed, many models of which allow you to do without not only a cesspool, but also without the construction of a latrine.
Which dry toilet to choose for your dacha
Currently, the range of these devices available for sale, convenient for a person’s comfortable stay outside the city, is very wide. And in order to figure out which dry closet to choose for your dacha, you should get acquainted with the characteristics and operating principles of various models.
Possibility of using biotoilets
Dry toilets for the most part are compact, small in size and weight devices, which can, however, vary significantly in design, depending on the type of product. But each of them has two chambers - upper and lower. The upper one plays the role of a toilet, and the lower one is used to collect and process waste.
A dry closet always consists of at least two chambers
The dry closet is easy to assemble and does not require any communications. It can be installed in almost any convenient room in the house, or, if desired, a small separate building can be erected for it. If it is not possible to carry out the labor-intensive work of digging a cesspool, you can choose a model that will allow you to use environmentally friendly fillers that are poured after use anywhere in your summer cottage.
Approximate basic diagram of a compact dry closet
The modern design of most dry toilets is mobile, therefore, when going to the country or just on a picnic in nature, you can take it with you by loading it into the trunk of your car.
A small dry closet can easily be taken with you when going outdoors.
Unfortunately, even in the city, not all private houses are connected to a sewer; many do not have properly equipped septic tanks, and therefore residents have to use a toilet located on the street. Such use becomes especially uncomfortable in winter, so in such a situation the same dry closet may be the ideal solution.
Is it difficult to build a country toilet?
Be that as it may, despite the emergence of new developments, there are still and will be supporters of the construction of an ordinary country toilet . To help them, there is a separate publication on our portal with an overview of simple buildings and instructions for their independent construction.
In addition to mobile options, there are also stationary designs of dry closets. As a rule, a separate room is provided for this type of device, similar to a regular bathroom.
The main types of modern household dry toilets: liquid, peat, electric. There are also so-called disposable dry closets, but they are intended only for emergency cases, and there is no point in considering them.
Liquid dry toilets
Design and principle of operation
Liquid biotoilets are devices in which waste disposal occurs using one of the types of special liquid added to water. Their design is as convenient as possible, compact, and can have different heights and tank volumes. Thus, the most common sizes of mobile liquid toilets are 320x380x310 mm and 450x450x420 mm.
Liquid dry toilets can be installed in almost any place convenient for the residents of the house, as it is hygienic and does not emit any odors.
The most convenient in terms of mobility and compactness are liquid dry toilets.
The design assumes the presence of two sections connected to each other and a container for water. The upper section looks like a toilet - it is equipped with a seat and a lid. In addition, there is also a pump for draining water.
In most mobile designs, the upper part of the device also includes a water container.
The lower part of the device serves as a collection and waste processing area. Thanks to special compositions, waste products lose their unpleasant odor and continuously decompose to a liquid consistency. Additionally, the lower section of the dry closet is equipped with a seal that retains odors from newly received waste until they are completely neutralized. Some of the models of this type of dry closet have a special indicator that will warn the user about the fill level of the lower container. If the waste container is empty or half full, the indicator will be green, and if the container needs to be cleaned, the color will change to red.
A small liquid dry toilet does not require a special room
Liquid dry toilets use several types of reagents that are used for waste disposal. They are divided into chemical ones and those containing special microorganisms (biological).
Special disinfecting and biodegradation-stimulating liquid compositions are poured into the lower container and begin to work immediately when waste enters there. A fragrance composition is added to the water tank, which also helps remove odors and makes it easier to flush out waste.
- When using an environmentally friendly liquid in a dry closet, containing special microorganisms that process waste into neutral components and water, it can be poured onto the ground anywhere and will be absolutely safe for the environment and will not cause discomfort to people. Typically, such compositions are green in color - this makes them easier to distinguish from chemicals also intended to decompose waste and remove odors.
- Chemical substances are more aggressive than biological compounds, and, starting to act on waste, they can turn it into a liquid mass with a uniform consistency and a neutral odor within a day.
When using chemicals, drain liquid from a filled toilet into a separate pit, as this composition can harm plants and animals.
Operating a dry closet is not difficult at all. After the lower container is filled and there is a need to clean it, the upper block of the device is removed from it, and then the waste tank is taken to the drainage point. It is better if it is a sewer or a special waste pit outside the site. Bottom containers are usually equipped with a convenient reset button and drain spout, allowing for clean cleaning. After emptying the tank, it must be rinsed and filled with plain water with the addition of one of the toilet preparations, diluted in accordance with the instructions on its bottle.
When using a liquid composting toilet, it is not recommended to throw regular toilet paper into it, since it does not decompose under the influence of liquids used to neutralize waste. Therefore, either you need to provide a separate container for it, or use special paper designed specifically for dry closets.
When choosing a liquid dry closet, you need to consider several factors:
Compact model with 10 liter receiving tank
Waste container volume. You need to know that a tank with a volume of 10÷12 liters is designed for approximately 20÷30 uses, and its filling period will be 3÷4 days, provided that no more than three people use it. If you need a longer period of use without cleaning, you need to purchase a dry toilet with a capacity of 20÷25 liters, which is designed for 50 uses, which corresponds to approximately a week of operation for three people.
The weight of a dry closet with a tank of 12÷13 liters will be about 14÷15 kg, and with a volume of 20÷25 liters - 22÷27 kg. This factor must be taken into account, since you will have to lift the device when it comes time to clean it.
The height of the dry closet is also of great importance, especially in cases where it will be used by an elderly person or a child, so this criterion must be taken into account when purchasing. For example, a device with a height of 420 mm will be inconvenient for small children, and a height of 310 mm is clearly not suitable for tall people.
Types of consumables for liquid dry toilets
Having understood the basic design and operating principle of a dry closet, it is worth taking a closer look at the means that are used for it.
As mentioned above, these products differ in their composition, in the method of preparing the working solution, in packaging, etc. However, each of them must fully perform the following functions:
- Disinfectant action.
- Neutralization of unpleasant odors.
- Fast waste disposal.
The main types widely used today are ammonium, formaldehyde and biological compounds.
Packaging of biological composition
Ammonium compounds
Ammonium-based compositions are quite effective for mobile dry toilets, but they decompose under the influence of oxygen within 4-7 days. Waste processed using this composition can easily be used to add it to compost material, so this product provides a “waste-free option” with maximum benefit for humans. One liter of concentrated ammonium composition will be enough for three months of operation of a dry closet with a volume of 20 liters.
Formaldehyde compounds
Formaldehyde-based products can be called the most effective for decomposing waste in dry closet conditions, since they have the most potent chemical composition. The main disadvantage of this product is that it must be disposed of through the central sewer system. Draining a filled container into the soil at a summer cottage or even close to it is completely unacceptable, since this composition is toxic. Therefore, formaldehyde compositions are apparently not suitable for use in suburban conditions.
One liter of such concentrate is enough for 3–4 months for a dry closet for the same 20 liters.
Biological agents
Biological products contain a composition of living bacteria, and are environmentally friendly and safe for the environment and humans. Such compositions are capable of converting dry closet waste into fertilizers for the garden or flower beds.
Biological drug concentrate
Biological compounds disinfect water and eliminate odors, and also process biological waste into fertile compost. Many of them are capable of preventing the development of pathogenic microbes and even infecting viable helminth eggs, pathogenic microflora and other negative manifestations. Since the preparations are biological, they do not contain chlorine, formaldehyde and phosphate additives, therefore they are ideal for use in dry closets in the country. Their main disadvantage is their higher price than other chemical-based products.
In addition to compounds that cause waste recycling, special compounds are also used for the upper tank - for water intended for flushing. They eliminate external odors, facilitate flushing and significantly reduce water consumption.
Concentrate for filling the flush cistern of a dry closet
It is advisable to purchase formulations made by the same manufacturer and on the same basis, as they will combine well with each other.
Manufacturers of compositions for dry toilets
Specialized stores and online catalogs offer a fairly wide selection of products for dry toilets, from domestic and foreign manufacturers. The compositions differ from each other in both basic components and prices.
Quite popular and effective are the compositions produced by Campa Green (Holland), Septicsol (Canada) and Biola (Russia). The most affordable products are Russian products, which produce various products, including those for dry toilets under the Biola brand.
Widely used product "AquaRinse"
When purchasing a dry closet, you should remember that not just any product is suitable for it. An incorrectly selected composition may not only fail to cope with the task, but also damage the device system. It is necessary to purchase only formulations specifically designed for this purpose. The packaging and instructions for use must clearly indicate the purpose and composition of the concentrate, as well as the rules for its preparation for refilling the container. Only after carefully studying the instructions will you be able to make a decision about purchasing one or another composition.
Electric dry toilets
Dry toilets powered by electricity usually consist of a plastic toilet body and two receiving tanks, separated from each other - the first is designed for processing solid waste, and the second is responsible for liquid disposal.
Expensive, but very easy to use - electric dry closets
On sale you can find models that are designed to discharge liquid waste into the sewer or drainage system, as well as to completely evaporate it. Solid waste is usually dried completely to a powder form using a compressor built into the body of the dry closet.
Approximate design diagram of an electric dry closet
Odors from electric models are removed using forced ventilation.
The positive qualities of this type of dry closet include the following:
- To operate an electrical device efficiently, you do not need to purchase chemical or biological consumables. After processing the waste, the output is environmentally friendly compost material, which is perfect for fertilizing the soil at your summer cottage.
- Since the waste is dried to a powder state, it does not take up much space in the container, so the chamber can be cleaned only 2-3 times a year.
- An electric toilet does not require flushing fluid.
- Due to the fact that forced exhaust is built into the design, there are completely no unpleasant odors.
The disadvantages of an electric dry closet include the following:
- If there is no power, this device cannot be used.
- An electric toilet can rather be classified as a stationary device, which means that a separate room must be allocated for it.
- This device will definitely have to be equipped with a forced hood vented outside.
- The high price of electric models can also be attributed to negative factors. So, the cost varies between 1 and 1.5 thousand dollars.
In Russian stores you can find electric toilets produced by Swedish manufacturers Separett (Villa brand) and Biolet (Cinderella brand).
If the country house is equipped and designed for all-season living, there are no interruptions in the power supply on the site, and the price of this device does not seem scary, then you can choose this option for reasons of ease of use.

Peat dry toilet
Features of the device and operation
The simplest and most affordable option, the cleanest from an environmental point of view, is a peat dry closet. This type is much superior to a traditional country cesspool.
The cleanest in terms of environmental friendliness are peat dry closets.
The peat version of the toilet can be purchased ready-made, or you can arrange it yourself, especially since this will not require particularly large expenses. To do this, you just need a suitable container, for example, a bucket and a toilet seat for it, a box for the filler, the filler itself - peat, and a place to collect already processed biomaterial - compost.
A peat dry closet for a summer cottage or a private house that is not equipped with a sewer system must have a lower container for human waste. To use this device, no water is required at all, since before using the toilet, peat filler is poured into its container, onto which waste falls, which is covered with another layer of peat on top.
The disadvantage of a peat dry closet is that it will require a separate, well-ventilated room, for example, an extension to a house or a building remote from the home. This factor is due to the fact that this design does not provide for the use of products that completely remove odor, and peat will not be able to fully neutralize it.
For a peat dry closet you will definitely need a separate room or even an extension
When arranging a peat toilet yourself, you can provide a waste separation scheme, as shown in this figure. In this option, the liquid is removed from the bowl using a hose and collected in a separate container, and solid waste is mixed with peat mass and composted in a special tank, from where, as it accumulates, it is moved to a compost pit.
Self-assembly of a finished dry closet
The design diagram of a finished peat dry closet can be studied using this drawing, and using the presented dimensions as a basis, it will not be difficult to make it yourself.
It is quite possible to make a compact peat dry closet on your own
Today you can find plastic containers of suitable shapes on sale, and all that remains is to make a comfortable toilet seat. It can be made, for example, from an old wooden chair, shortening the legs for convenience and covering its lower part on three sides with boards or plastic panels.
This design has a lot of advantages, and these include the following points:
- To use this type of dry closet, you do not need water.
- The tank is cleaned of solid waste less frequently than a liquid dry closet of the same volume.
- The peat toilet is absolutely environmentally friendly, and waste mixed with peat does not pollute the environment.
- This type of dry closet has the most affordable price of all similar devices and devices existing today.
- The cost of the filler is also much lower than that of chemical and biological agents.
Like any device, a peat dry closet also has its drawbacks:
- As mentioned above, this device requires the arrangement of a separate room with good ventilation.
- To keep the container filled for as long as possible, it is recommended to install a tube for draining liquid into a separate container, for which you can use a canister.
- The structure can only be stationary.
Filler for peat dry closet
The bacteria contained in the peat mass contribute to the rapid decomposition of solid human waste and their conversion into compost fertilizers for the soil of a summer cottage. By sprinkling waste with peat, the excessive spread of unpleasant odor is suppressed, and composting occurs more quickly.
Packaging of filler for peat dry closet
To fill the dry toilet, you need to use only dry filler, and it can be safely and conveniently stored next to the toilet seat. Layers of filler are filled in every time, before using the toilet and immediately after that.
You can also fill the toilet manually when using the toilet - place a box with filler next to it.
Sometimes owners of such devices try to replace peat with small shavings or sawdust, but it should be understood that these materials will not give such an effect and will not contribute to the rapid processing of waste into compost mass. Sawdust can be used, but only by making a mixture of it and peat in 1:1 proportions, and only if a container with a volume of at least 50 liters is used under the toilet bowl. With this use of the dry composition, the layers of filler and waste will be provided with good aeration, which will help to activate the process of decomposition and mixing of the components into the total mass.
Models of peat dry closets
A few words need to be said about the most popular models of peat dry toilets, which can be purchased today in specialized stores, since many owners of country houses still prefer ready-made products to homemade ones.
Peat composting dry closet "Piteco 505"
Dry toilet peat model "Piteco 505"
The Russian-made dry closet is a structure consisting of two parts. In its upper part there is a toilet seat and a block for filling the peat mixture, as well as a mechanism for feeding it. The lower block contains a drainage system, a storage tank and filter elements. The sections of the dry closet are easily connected and separated from each other if it is necessary to clean the tank.
The body of the dry closet is made of sanitary plastic. The contents of the storage unit are prudently closed with flaps that open only when using the toilet.
The manufacturing company produces models with different storage volumes, which range from 45 to 72 liters, with product heights from 400 to 600 mm. The dry closet is designed for a maximum load of 150 to 250 kg.
The price for different models, depending on their volume, can range from 325 to 530 USD, but it should be noted that you can also find simpler “budget” options at a price of 160÷170 USD.
Peat composting dry closet "Biolan Naturum"
Comfortable model “Biolan Naturum”
This type of dry closet is produced in Finland and is classified as a high-comfort design. Thanks to this, it can be installed both in outdoor toilets and indoors. Almost all models are equipped with wheels, making it easier to move the product when it needs to be cleaned.
This product is a single body, not divided into blocks, and has dimensions suitable for installation in a room of the same area as the toilet room of a standard apartment. Its dimensions are: 840×740×810 mm, seat height 470÷490 mm, weight - about 40 kg, internal capacity volume - 30 l, compost tank volume - 7 kg.
The kit includes all the elements necessary for operation: ventilation pipes, drainage and a bucket for dosing the peat mixture. Since the composting toilet is composting, any organic matter can be composted in it. This model of dry closet has a waste separation function, which is convenient when cleaning it.
produces a very large number of models with different sizes and shapes. Prices for products vary from 130 to 560 USD.
Peat composting dry toilet "Ekomatic"
Composting peat toilet "Ekomatic"
Another Finnish manufacturer that is quite popular on the Russian market is. The products of this brand are of high quality and come in a variety of shapes and sizes.
The shown option has a storage capacity of 110 liters, the seat height is 500 mm, and the weight of the dry closet is 24 kg. This and other models of this company are generally identical to Biolan dry closets.
Prices for Ekomatic peat dry toilets range from 320 to 600 USD.
Stationary composting toilet
Another version of a dry closet using peat as an active filler is more complex in design, since it is a building with a special compartment (chamber) underneath for processing waste into compost.
Such a building looks quite expensive, but it will pay for itself very quickly, since it will bring double benefits - it will serve as a toilet and be a place for producing and storing compost. In addition, you will not have to spend money not only on purchasing fertilizers, but also on their delivery.
Having built such a dry toilet once, you can be sure that it will serve for many years, and all this time fertilizers for the garden and flower beds will always be at hand.
Scheme of a stationary composting dry closet
In this diagram you can see that the dry closet consists of an upper clean room where a block with a toilet seat is installed. Under the toilet room there is a closed chamber with a ceiling height of about one and a half meters, into which waste mixed with peat enters through a hole in the toilet seat. A door is installed in the lower part of the wall opposite from the waste disposal for raking out the finished compost. A slope of at least 30˚ is arranged inside the chamber - it is necessary for even distribution of waste. This slope is arranged from the wall located behind the toilet seat with a slope towards the cesspool door. Moreover, under this slide there should be space for free circulation of warm air, which will come from the solar collector installed near the wall and enter the chamber through the hole located above it. To allow warm air to penetrate deep into the mass of waste and peat, a perforated pipe is fixed in the wall, which will provide excellent aeration and recycling of waste into compost.
To remove compost from the chamber, you do not need to go down into it - just open the door and use a shovel to take out the required amount of biofertilizer.
It is quite possible to place a dry closet in the basement
You can arrange a dry closet, which will be located directly under the house, but for this, the chamber for making compost (C) is made sealed, and liquid waste is collected in a separate container (item 5) installed outside the chamber, since it will need to be emptied sufficiently often.
In this case, the toilet room is located on the ground floor (indicated by the letter B in the diagram).
In order to separate waste into different chambers, it is necessary to install a toilet seat (item 3), through which solid waste together with peat will flow into the compost compartment (C), and a urinal (item 4), connected to a container for collecting liquid ( pos. 5). A ventilation pipe (2) is installed into the sealed chamber with solid waste, which will remove all emitted fumes to the outside. Next to the container for collecting liquid, a door is installed in the wall (item 1), through which you can easily get compost to fertilize the soil in the garden.
It should be noted that, if desired, you can add biological agents for the lower tank of the dry closet to the liquid collection container. If you decide to use such a toilet constantly, then the tank for collecting liquid should be chosen in a dark color or at least opaque.
Criteria for choosing a dry closet for a summer residence
When choosing a dry closet for use in the country, you need to pay special attention to some points.
Filling tank volume
The frequency of cleaning the device will depend on this parameter. For example, as already noted, a container with a volume of 12÷14 liters is designed for 28÷30 uses, and a 20÷23 liter toilet is designed for 50. When choosing a dry closet according to this criterion, you need to take into account the number of family members who will use it and the expected frequency cleaning so that you don’t have to do it too often.
Weight of a filled storage tank
If a dry closet is purchased for an elderly person, then it is necessary to take into account its weight when filled so that it does not turn out to be too heavy to lift. In this case, it is better to rely on frequent but comfortable cleaning. Therefore, it would be optimal to choose a dry toilet in which the lower tank will have a volume of no more than 12÷14 liters, and the weight when filled will be only 14÷16 kg, since a 20-liter container together with liquid weighs at least 22÷23 kg.
When choosing a mobile toilet according to this criterion, you need to approach it by realistically assessing your strengths, so that subsequently cleaning the toilet does not become a painful procedure.
Height of toilet seat
This parameter is also important, especially in cases where there are small children in the house. You should probably choose a model of such a height that it is comfortable for all family members, that is, medium, since a high chair that is too high will be uncomfortable for children, and a chair that is too low will be uncomfortable for adults. If a dry closet is purchased specifically for a child, as a potty, then you should choose a height of approximately 300 mm.
Tank full indicator
Models that have an indicator that shows the filling level of the lower tank are slightly more expensive, but by choosing the option with this element, you will not need to worry about refilling the tank. In addition, the indicator will help save on consumables intended for waste recycling, since, fearing overfilling, most often users empty a half-empty container that could still be used for quite a long time.
Drain button
There are three options for the control that causes the drain:
The button is a corrugated pump, when pressed, waste is immediately flushed into the lower container.
Corrugated dry toilet pump
The piston pump will require several presses to create the required pressure for flushing - only after that water will begin to flow into the toilet bowl. Without a doubt, the first option is more convenient to use, but the price for models with a drain button is higher.
Injecting fluid to drain using a piston pump
The electric pump is powered by a battery, which necessitates the need to always have the appropriate element in stock. But when you press the button, water immediately, without additional pumping, flows into the toilet bowl.
Very easy to use electric pump
Winter dry toilet
If earlier in the winter months dachas were mostly empty, today many people prefer to live in suburban conditions even in the cold season. If the toilet is located in a heated room, there will be no problems with its operation. It’s another matter if all the “conveniences” are located on the street.
To make using a dry closet outdoors comfortable even in the cold months, you can purchase a peat or chemical-based device. Chemical-based non-freezing liquids are produced especially for this purpose, and peat in a dry state will not freeze even in severe frost. The use of these toilet models and the corresponding consumables will not require any significant additional costs.
Another, more comfortable option could be a thermal toilet, which can also be purchased today both in stores and online.
One of these devices is the all-season summer cottage dry toilet “Termotoilet”, produced in Finland, which runs on peat and composts waste.
Peat composting dry closet "Termotoilet"
All-season peat composting dry closet "Termotoilet"
In this model, the designers took into account all the wishes of summer residents living outside the city all year round - ease of use, durability and ease of removing finished compost.
Waste composting in this model occurs all year round. The dry closet has a durable, heat-insulated body; in addition, it is designed to neutralize unpleasant odors.
The thermal toilet has a wear-resistant warm seat that does not require power or water for heating. The storage tank of this model has a volume of 230 liters.
Dimensional parameters of the dry toilet "Termotoilet":
- Its total height is 980 mm.
- The height of the lower part to the seat is 425 mm.
- Seat width – 800 mm.
- Seat depth – 600 mm.
- The diameter of the ventilation hole is 110 mm.
The body is made of hygienic, wear-resistant plastic that does not react to temperature changes. The seat is made of polypropylene foam, so it always remains warm. The metal dispenser handle is powder coated.
The price of thermal toilets can vary from 200 USD. The presented option will cost about 300 USD.
In conclusion, I would like to say that the solution to the problem of a country toilet directly depends on the financial capabilities and preferences of the owner of a country house:
- This can be a compact device with liquid waste processing.
- An electric drying toilet that processes waste through evaporation and drying is expensive and requires permanent installation.
- A comfortable thermal toilet that will actively recycle waste at any time of the year, regardless of the installation location and outside temperatures.
- A continuously functioning peat dry closet, installed in a separate building built for it or installed in a dedicated room.
The main criterion that must be met is the comfort of using the device for all family members.

Bucket toilet for use in the countryside
After eating, humanity all over the world must remove its waste products to a specially equipped place for this purpose. It’s good if a person lives in a comfortable apartment with a toilet with sewerage. In this case, you don’t need to think about how and where all the waste is sent. And having moved to a summer cottage, you have to think broadly about this issue.
Our industry has launched the production of a bucket toilet for such needs. It solves the problems of a summer resident who does not go out into nature very often and therefore did not have time to build a stationary toilet.
At a summer cottage, a toilet is built in a convenient place where there are no unresolved issues with wastewater. In the absence of a well-built toilet house, a toilet bucket with a seat and a lid will come to the rescue.
Such a bucket is also a helper for elderly people, children and disabled people who do not have the opportunity to go to the street toilet. Therefore, our designers have developed a so-called dry closet, which is designed in the form of a tall bucket with a comfortable seat.
The instructions for the toilet product say that with the help of this product you can irrigate garden beds, take it fishing or to the forest to pick mushrooms and berries
But the most important thing is that this toilet is intended to be used as a latrine
What is the bucket made of?
This item is made of high-quality plastic material, which has a chair for a person to sit on and a tight-fitting lid. The plastic composition is very durable and can withstand the load of a 100 kg person. Such products are produced in different colors, which allows the buyer to purchase their desired shade.
Working principle of bucket
The toilet works very simply. After defecation, you must close the lid and throw the waste into a garbage cesspool or compost heap. After the work is done, the bucket is washed with water and left for later use. If you do not have the opportunity to throw away the waste after the procedure, you can sprinkle the contents with peat, sawdust or sand.
There are no such powders, then before starting use, pour 2 liters of water into a bucket, and cover the human waste products with toilet paper. The paper will perform the mechanism of operation of the dry closet, in which the smell and solid particles will be retained in the aquatic environment, and to improve the smell, you can add a little detergent that has a strong aroma to the container.
The advantages of such a toilet:
- no sewage required;
- can be easily installed in any corner of the cottage or apartment;
- simple design, can be used by children, old people and disabled people;
- low price, which justifies itself in a short time.
We present a small range of useful toilets:
- Bucket toilet Lotus.
- Toilet buckets with a capacity of 17, 19, 22, 24 liters.
All products for use in the country are made by Russian industry from durable plastic and any colors.
Two-piece bucket
This bucket is equipped with an ergonomic seat, at the bottom of which there is a drainage device through which waste is removed. The portable dry closet is made of high-strength plastic material that does not respond to temperature changes and can easily withstand all weights and impacts.
The two-section design of the latrine is similar to a toilet for an outdoor toilet house. The flush tank is located on one of the sections for waste products, which must be removed when full. To view the completeness of filling the tank, a level with a special indicator is built in. Such a portable toilet can be used not only in country houses, but also at home, placing it in a secluded place.
Before purchasing a two-piece bucket toilet, you need to learn in detail about all the advantages and disadvantages.
Some advantages of a dry toilet bucket
- installs without much effort;
- ability to move to any place;
- takes up minimal space;
- easy care;
- low cost.
Some disadvantages of the bucket
- the smell after bowel movements is difficult to eliminate;
- a special room is needed for privacy;
- low hygiene;
- The tank must be constantly cleared of feces.
In the age of high technology, for a temporary latrine, a portable portable bucket toilet is considered a very simple, durable and ergonomic useful item.
Features of use
You can place the bucket in different places, possible options:
- Outdoors, in a separate room.
- In the house.
- In nature, somewhere in a secluded place.
The results of feces can be poured onto a compost heap, they will burn out there and will benefit the plants in the next season. This type of composting toilet for your dacha is convenient, easy to use, and even beneficial for your compost.
A bucket toilet is a solution for many summer residents. Even those who have a very tight budget can buy it. Ease of use and versatility are the secrets to the popularity of this dry toilet.
